The Jacobs Music Center - Ballroom With a Twist - Downtown

The Jacobs Music Center - Ballroom With a Twist - Downtown

The San Diego community never ceases its artistic combustion of music and cultural arts! It was a balmy 75-degree day this San Diego winter(sarcasm), and a group of friends wanted to start off their long-weekend with artistic mental stimulation. It's not a typical weekend where we usually kick it off with after-work libation, but what happens to be in town at the Jacobs Music Center is a show called, BALLROOM WITH A TWIST. What is BALLROOM WITH A TWIST? Well, I could tell you now, but then you wouldn't read the rest of my post, so you'll just have to follow along.

Café Madeleine, a French Hidden Gem - South Park

Café Madeleine, a French Hidden Gem - South Park

We sat at one of the corners inside the cafe. It was set-up with corner-bench seating and windows for walls. A barista screams, table 7! Then a solo espresso and a single cup of coffee was brought to the table. She came over with a polite smile and told us that the food should come out shortly. We sat there, listening to the French music playing, and just enjoyed the ambiance of the cafe.

UNDERBELLY - Little Italy, San Diego

UNDERBELLY - Little Italy, San Diego

GET IN MY BELLY! That single line runs through my head whenever passing by or eating at this popular restaurant. Only a block below India Street, in heart of San Diego's Little Italy, Underbelly is one of this cities' delicious ramen spots. Only in San Diego, where 60 degrees is considered freezing, could a restaurant be deliberately designed to have most of its seating outside. I actually think that there is more seating outside than there is inside. It's been raining on and off all day, and we're expecting it to be super busy, as San Diegans tend to seek warm food when the weather turns sour. So after turning the corner, we aren't surprised that this place is poppin'!

Old Town Trolley Tour - Old Town

Old Town Trolley Tour - Old Town

We were driving around San Diego one afternoon and saw an Old Town Trolley pass by and we realized that we've never actually been on the Old Town Trolley Tour! We always see these green and orange trolleys zip by around town full of happy people, so we decided that in the upcoming weekend, we will be San Diego tourists for a day and ride the Old Town Trolley.

LEAN & GREEN CAFE - La Jolla, San Diego

LEAN & GREEN CAFE - La Jolla, San Diego

One of the great things about living in San Diego is the amount of organic restaurants and cafes. It  seems that in nearly ever area of this city there are a number of spots to grab a healthy and organic bite to eat. As a healthy eater, and also a person who enjoys trying new places, I was excited when Lean and Green Cafe reached out to me via Twitter, inviting me to stop by for an organic wrap and smoothie.

Urban Kitchen's Newest Offspring is Cucina Enoteca - Del Mar

Tracy Borkum's empire expands into North County with the newest addition to the Urban Kitchen Family, Cucina Enoteca. If you've ever been to it's older sister in Bankers Hill, Cucina Urbana, this new restaurant brings you the best of the previous but younger and more fresh. You could say Cucina Enoteca is like Cucina Urbana with a facelift. The menu and food is as delicious, if not more, than the rest of its restaurant brothers and sisters. As soon as we heard of the opening we just had to give them it a try.

HOMESTYLE HAWAIIAN - Clairemont Mesa

HOMESTYLE HAWAIIAN - Clairemont Mesa

Ever heard the saying that "San Diego is the closest thing to Hawaii on the mainland"? If you have, then you've truly spent a good amount of time on the Islands eating at Local spots. The truth is that you probably miss the food, and wish that there was a spot in San Diego to get good eats. Well, I am happy to say that there is such a place, Homestyle Hawaiian.

BROCKTON VILLA - La Jolla, San Diego

BROCKTON VILLA - La Jolla, San Diego

Tucked away near the water's edge in La Jolla is a cozy restaurant with a modest appearance. This small restaurant with its white steps and white wrap around patio is nestled at the bottom of a hill just below Prospect Street. It's location on the quiet corner of Ocean Boulevard with only waves as neighbors might be easy to miss. With a front row view of rolling waves and the blue horizon, one could think that this might be the restaurant's main draw with its cuisine playing a supporting role. However, not even the majesty of the powerful Pacific Ocean can upstage Brockton Villa's masterfully crafted dishes.

Rakiraki Ramen & Tsukemen - Convoy District

With our stomachs growling, we waited on the side of the restaurant. The restaurant was well-lit, as if you're in an episode of Top Model. You could see from the outside that people inside were happily devouring every bite of their ramen burgers and slurping their ramen noodles. Each minute seemed like an hour. I couldn't wait to be the person inside devouring a ramen burger while slurping on some ramen.

FOGO DE CHÃO - GasLamp Quarter, Downtown

FOGO DE CHÃO - GasLamp Quarter, Downtown

One of the newest restaurants to make it's home in San Diego's GasLamp Quarter is the Brazilian Steak house, Fogo de Chão. We’ve heard their commercials on the radio, on Pandora, and have seen ads all over town enticing us to stop by. Even our friends have asked when we will be paying Fogo a visit. The hype about this place seems to be everywhere. Not surprising, Twitter, our main source of food recommendations, has also been alive with Fogo De Chão buzz. The restaurant has even started its own hastag, #FogoSD. With so much interest surrounding this new spot, we knew that it needed to be moved to the top of our Restaurant Week to-do list!
