Nap at Home or the Beach? - South Mission Beach, Beaches

It was about 2:00pm in the afternoon and my roomies and I were wondering what to do. It was 72 degrees fahrenheit outside and the skies looked clear, so we figured, we could stay and nap at home or nap at the beach? So, we decided the latter.

At first we headed to Mission Beach, but because it's the summer, the parking lot was like watching the movie, Hunger Games . Tourists from around the world and locals flock to the beach, especially when the weather is so nice. After some time looking for parking, we decided to head off to South Mission Beach instead. If you're not familiar with this beach, it's a little further South on Mission Blvd. The beauty of this beach is that it has its own parking lot, roughly 50-60 spots. So we found a spot in less than 5 minutes and proceeded to find the perfect spot to take our naps.

This beach is a little bit more mellow than the other beaches. Mission Beach Proper, Pacific Beach, La Jolla, and Ocean Beach right now is filled to the brim with people surfing, enjoying a fire pit, bbqing and also enjoying the beach with their dogs. South Mission Beach is a hotspot for outdoor sports like basketball and beach volleyball. There's plenty of volleyball courts and a couple of basketball courts walking distance. This beach also has firepits in the summer, and lockers and bathroom for your convenience. Also, it is a good spot for having a picnic. Plenty of grass area by the beach volleyball and basketball courts. Safe for your kids to enjoy the ocean, as this is also close to the lifeguard tower.

So we found a spot, close to the water, about 20 feet away from people and has a great view of the jetty. It's the local surfer's playground. If you want to surf at the jetty, make sure you know how first, but if you want to learn, there's also a surf school in this beach. Actually, the area to the right of the jetty has consistent waves for beginners/bodysurfing or just wanting to enjoy the ocean. There were a couple of 4-year-olds, yes they were only 4 years old, surfing in the ocean.

So there we hung out, enjoyed our nap, after chowing down on some In-N-Out double-doubles with fries and a drink. If this isn't San Diego living, I don't know what is.  So for a nice quick beach hangout, away from the parking nightmare, check out South Mission Beach.

After the beach, we picked up some chips because we're gonna grill some carnitas, pollo as asado, you name it, but you can't have salsa without chips.
