A Historic Gaslamp Experience & The 39 Steps

A Historic Gaslamp Experience & The 39 Steps

It seems like the "polar vortex" is still wreaking havoc in San Diego! The San Diegans are in shock that their winter weather is being ruined by the heat. We're now forced to make sandmen instead of snowmen. Boo. Hoo. Feeling inspired and in a sunny disposition, the Experience San Diego team has decided to explore the Gaslamp Quarter during the day, making it into a mini-San Diego "staycation". We will be staying at the Horton Grand Hotel while exploring the history of the Gaslamp Quarter at the San Diego Chinese Historical Museum and The Gaslamp Museum at the William Heath Davis House, and enjoying the evening with laughter at the Horton Grand Theatre, which is showing The 39 Steps

The Jacobs Music Center - Ballroom With a Twist - Downtown

The Jacobs Music Center - Ballroom With a Twist - Downtown

The San Diego community never ceases its artistic combustion of music and cultural arts! It was a balmy 75-degree day this San Diego winter(sarcasm), and a group of friends wanted to start off their long-weekend with artistic mental stimulation. It's not a typical weekend where we usually kick it off with after-work libation, but what happens to be in town at the Jacobs Music Center is a show called, BALLROOM WITH A TWIST. What is BALLROOM WITH A TWIST? Well, I could tell you now, but then you wouldn't read the rest of my post, so you'll just have to follow along.

We were driving around San Diego one afternoon and saw an Old Town Trolley pass by and we realized that we've never actually been on the Old Town Trolley Tour! FOGO DE CHÃO - GasLamp Quarter, Downtown

FOGO DE CHÃO - GasLamp Quarter, Downtown

One of the newest restaurants to make it's home in San Diego's GasLamp Quarter is the Brazilian Steak house, Fogo de Chão. We’ve heard their commercials on the radio, on Pandora, and have seen ads all over town enticing us to stop by. Even our friends have asked when we will be paying Fogo a visit. The hype about this place seems to be everywhere. Not surprising, Twitter, our main source of food recommendations, has also been alive with Fogo De Chão buzz. The restaurant has even started its own hastag, #FogoSD. With so much interest surrounding this new spot, we knew that it needed to be moved to the top of our Restaurant Week to-do list!

THE BLIND BURRO - Downtown

THE BLIND BURRO - Downtown

San Diego Restaurant Week begins again, and we’re excited to kick it off with a visit to see a burro, The Blind Burro. Both @SDJigger and I, @Danofrnandez are very active on twitter, using it as a way to connect with other San Diego locals, businesses and restaurants. In fact, most of the restaurants that we’ve visited are from direct user recommendations or interactions via Twitter. The Blind Burro is no exception.

Noble Experiment - Gaslamp Quarter, Downtown

Noble Experiment - Gaslamp Quarter, Downtown

A reference to an infamous time in American history--Prohibition, is where The Noble Experiment got its name. So what and where is this hidden in San Diego downtown? It's actually in a 'Neighborhood' located in G Street and 8th Avenue. First of all, it's not your typical bar, you will not be able to order a drink made with vodka here. Secondly, there's no dancing inside. If you're feeling like Al Capone, or just want to be cool, then this is a good place for an artisan drink, that will bring you back in time.
